What is Halotherapy?
In halotherapy, we use a device known as a halogenerator to create microscopic particles of pharmaceutical grade dry salt in a humidity controlled environment. This aerosolized salt, being 1-5 microns in size, draws moisture, helping the lungs clear naturally and drug-free, and increasing skin health and healing. For comparison, a grain of table salt is hundreds of microns across, so halotherapy salt is far finer — fine enough to stay suspended in the air and travel deep into the lungs.

Elite performance depends on efficient oxygen exchange — and the airway is often the limiting factor long before muscle or cardiovascular capacity is.
Salt is naturally hygroscopic, meaning it draws moisture to the airway surface. This helps thin and mobilize mucus, supporting the horse's own mucociliary clearance mechanism — the process by which cilia sweep debris, allergens, and inflammatory byproducts out of the lower airways. Salt particles are also understood to have mild anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties at the mucosal surface, which is why the therapy is often used to support horses managing airway inflammation, mucus accumulation, or recovery after intense exertion.

Halotherapy vs Nebulizer/Saline
Unlike nebulizers or saline treatments, which require a mask, restraint, and a wet aerosol that many horses resist, halotherapy is a passive, whole-body dry salt session the horse simply stands through — no equipment on the face, no liquid, and no medication residue to manage before competition. Because the salt disperses through the air rather than being delivered via a fitted device, it's often easier to administer consistently, especially for horses that are anxious about masks or restraint. And since it's dry rather than wet, it avoids the moisture that can sometimes encourage bacterial growth in the airway — a consideration nebulized saline doesn't address the same way.
What about side effects?
Halotherapy is low-risk with no known major side effects — most horses simply relax through a session. Occasionally, a sensitive horse may cough briefly as salt loosens airway mucus, which passes quickly. Always check with your vet first if your horse has a serious respiratory condition.

How are you qualified? Are you insured?
I am certified through the World Halotherapy Association (WHA) and the Salt Therapy Association (STA). I do carry insurance, proof of which is available upon request.
How Our Sessions Work
1- Book your session.
Prices depend upon number of horses and their needs. Plan for $50 per horse, plus $1.50 per mile for travel.
2- Day of treatment
We will arrive and prep the trailer, which includes air conditioning the space and priming the chamber with salt. This could take up 30 minutes, depending on the weather.
You will bring your horse(s) to the trailer and load them. Please remove any blankets so as to have direct contact with the salt over the entire body.
Once horse(s) are loaded and comfortable, the session will begin. Expect this to last 15-45 minutes.
At the end of the session, we suggest not washing the salt residue off your horse. They will continue to benefit from it after they leave the chamber!

3- What's Next
A plan is developed on a case by case basis, but this is not a one time cure. Sessions get best results in 3s. We can offer 3 consecutive days or morning/evening/morning or evening/morning/evening.
